Who I Am
Although my fascination with watches (like many others of my age) started at school with Casio digital watches, I was quite a "late bloomer" in terms of my interest in mechanical time pieces. In 2001, I purchased my first "proper watch" (a Brietling) as a reward for a job promotion and, from there, i fell into the watch collecting "rabbit hole". Over a 20 year period, I built a collection of over 50 wrist and pocket watches ranging from a 220 year-old pocket watch to a high-tech Grand Seiko Spring Drive (with plenty of Rolex, Patek, Vacheron and Omega in between). I still collect timepieces but now only buy what i really want for the collection (1-2 pieces per year).
In 2015, I decided to get deeper into the world of horology by learning the mechanics of the watches that i loved so much. I purchased lots of old movements, consumed vast amounts of information and slowly began to understand micro-mechanics and watch movement design. Over a period of a few years, i built and equipped my workshop, enrolled on watch repair courses and serviced as many watches as i could get my hands on until, in 2016, i felt confident enough to build my first custom watch.
Since then, i've continued to collect, service, repair and build wrist watches with the goal of introducing as many people to this wonderful world as possible. In addition, this is a pastime, not a job for me and all profits from my watch business go to charity.
My favourite watch? (that question always comes up!)... That would be my Rolex Explorer 14270.. It is not the most expensive or complicated watch in my collection but, in my view, it's a perfect coming together of form and function.
